Reaching Out At The Laurel Centre's "Change The World" Conference

Student Reach participated in The Laurel Centre's Second Annual Conference on Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Waterloo. During the exhibition portion of the conference, Student Reach raised awareness of current humanitarian social and medical issues and the organization's initiatives to create positive change. Among attendees were conference delegates, students and fellow individuals and organizations seeking to promote social activism.

Speakers at the conference included Marc Kielburger of Free the Children, Carolyn Acker of Pathways Canada, and Mary-Jo Sullivan of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Global Citizenship Lecture

Guelph, ON - October 23, 2008 - Centennial C.V.I.

On October 23, 2008, Abid Virani spoke at Centennial C.V.I. about the meaning of global citizenship. The focus of the presentation was how civic consciousness and involvement are vital tools to build a community of global citizens. The presentation took place in the G.I. room at 12:00 p.m.


National Me to We Day 2008

Toronto, ON - October 17, 2008 - Ricoh Coliseum

Me to WeStudent Reach was thrilled to have been invited by Craig Kielburger to volunteer at Free The Children's 2008 Me to We Day, which was held at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto on October 17, 2008. The event hosted high school delegations from all across Canada with the goal of promoting youth activism.

Headlining the event, portions of which were broadcasted on CTV and MTV Canada, were renowned actress and activist Mia Farrow and former Canadian Prime Minister John Turners. Justin Trudeau, Dalton Mcguinty and Louise Kent, who performed for Student Reach in May, all shared the stage with Mark and Craig Kielburger.


Masai for Africa’s Celebration Event

The Masai for Africa campaign in Guelph, Ontario has been a huge success. Student Reach joined the celebration on October 4th, 2008 at the University of Guelph Gryphons stadium. The city of Guelph has reached the goal of raising $1,000,000! The City of Guelph is a “Bracelet of Hope” community. Attendees came dressed in red and were asked to form into the shape of Canada for an aerial photo. See the Media area to read news articles from the event.

Reach: From Guelph to Kenya

Guelph, ON - May 16, 2008 - River Run Centre

On May 16th, 2008, Free The Children joined Student Reach at the River Run Centre for a very exciting evening. The benefit raised $10,000 to construct a school in Kenya and inspired all that were there. Adam Hart-Owens and Ken Gee performed wonderfully, as did Louise Kent who was a surprise performer. Craig Kielburger gave an engaging speech and intrigued everyone in the audience. Student Reach would like to graciously thank each and every person for supporting us and joining us for the evening. A special thank you goes to the Investors Group who made the entire event possible.
