Student Reach is very proud to have many schools involved with our programs and projects. In early months of 2008, Student Reach held the Reaching Competition in the Guelph area. Involved in the initiative was Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute, Bishop Macdonnel High School, Erin District High School, Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute, St. James High School, and John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute. The six secondary schools competed in raising awareness about child poverty and raising funds to construct a primary school in Kenya.

John F. Ross was lead by their School Representative, Maddie Webb, to winning the 2008 Reaching Competition. The Secondary School Reaching Award was presented to Ross as they raised over $3000 towards the effort. Throughout the months of the initiative, Ross also submitted numerous student written stories and images showing students reaching out. Congratulations to Ross on truly being an inspiration and showing how a group of students can make a difference.

Aberfoyle Public School (Elementary School)

In 2008, a group of committed students were inspired at Reach: From Guelph to Kenya to joining Student Reach. At Aberfoyle, the students organized for a dance to be held. Instead of paying for a DJ with the revenue, students decided to play CDs and use the raised money to contribute to the construction of a primary school. They raised $429.60 in their campaign, a very significant and valued contribution. Aberfoyle has also had Student Reach run workshops about career development and opportunities at their school. Aberfoyle was the first elementary school to join Student Reach’s efforts.
