Workshops: Reach In

The first step is to encourage each and every student to reach within him or her self. To do this, Student Reach provides students with information and knowledge about global poverty. Students will be introduced to a variety of causes, campaigns and initiatives through presentations and group discussions, opening their minds and eyes to unorthodox issues and solutions in our world today. Many questions they may have about certain issues will be addressed and discussed. Student Reach puts a very personal approach on learning about the world, examining true stories of inspiration that involve global issues.

We then encourage each student to find the cause that he or she is most passionate about and inspire them to take action. Students will become actively involved in understanding the cause present in their community, country or world that most inspires them to take action, or to make change where they see most fit. Student Reach is able to guide students in accessing information, making informed decisions and in their growth as a more responsible global citizen.

We encourage students to prioritize, to self-actualize, and to be compassionate.

Example Activity

Students are asked to list the top three priorities at this point in their lives. They are then asked to set their list aside, and visualize a specific day that recently happened in their life. They are taken through the motions of waking up, making breakfast, attending school and so forth. At the end of their visualization we ask students to take to a look at their list of priorities once again. Do their priorities match up with how much time or effort they spent on each one during a normal day? This allows students to self-actualize and internally question their own list of priorities and actions on a daily basis.

We firmly believe that to be able to learn about other people and help them, we must first be able to learn about ourselves.
